Studying pre-veterinary medicine

For eligible graduates, we offer a partnership with St Matthew's University School of Veterinary Medicine and , that will guarantee entry to Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates who meet the admission requirements.

Your first step to veterinary school is to find an undergraduate program that provides the course work and prerequisites needed to apply.

Both the biomedical science and environmental biology specializations in our Biological Science program include much of the course work and core curriculum needed to pursue veterinary medicine.

Pathway admission requirements

To help accelerate your learning, Â鶹´«Ã½ has partnered with and  to create a pathway to becoming a veterinarian.

Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 75 per cent* for guaranteed entry** 

*Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates with a GPA lower than 75 per cent will be considered on an individual basis and subject to seat availability.

**To receive entry, Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates must satisfactorily complete an undergraduate interview with the admissions team at one of the pathway universities, and provide three letters of recommendation from an Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty member.  

The following courses are the pre-medical requirements for admission:

  • Biology

    One-year General Biology or Zoology course with a laboratory requirement.

  • Chemistry

    One year general Chemistry course with a lab requirement.

    Half year Organic Chemistry course with a lab requirement.

    Half year Biochemistry course.

  • English

    A half year language arts (English) course. This course can be substituted with a writing component, like a term paper or written project.

  • Math or Computer Science
    Half year college Math or Computer Science course.
