Shared @uoit.ca mailbox domains switching to @ontariotechu.ca on November 16
As part of the university’s email branding changes, shared mailbox email domains will switch from @uoit.ca to @ontariotechu.ca on Monday, November 16.
What is a shared mailbox?
Shared mailboxes are used for support or inquiries to a department or faculty.
Examples:
- askit@uoit.ca (would change to askit@ontariotechu.ca)
- hrgeneral@uoit.ca (would change to hrgeneral@ontariotechu.ca)
Issues you may experience after the switch
Shared mailboxes that require a username and password
After the change, you may be required to enter the account information for your shared mailbox.
How to find out if your need a username and password to access your shared mailbox in Outlook:
- Select File in the top left corner.
- Select Account Settings to open the dropdown.
- Select Account Settings within the dropdown.
- Check the list of email accounts.
- If you don’t see a shared mailbox in the list (i.e. you only see your personal email account), your shared mailbox doesn’t require a username and password for Outlook.
- If you do see a shared mailbox in the list, you will need to find the username and password.
To find out the username and password for the shared mailbox
Contact the owner of the shared mailbox. If they don’t know it, you will need to contact the Information Technology (IT) Service Desk to request a username/password reset, and then ensure everyone who uses the shared mailbox has the new login credentials.
For more information, see the on the IT Services website, or contact GotEmail@ontariotechu.ca.
