Dr. Toba Bryant publishes several papers on critical social determinants of health

Dr. Toba Bryant, Associate Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences, has published several new papers focussed on social determinants of health, housing and health, and food insecurity:

  • – Edited by Dr. Bryant and published by Edward Elgar Publishing, this handbook explores complex factors influencing health outcomes, including economic stability, education, and access to health care.
  • Housing and Health (2025) – Dr. Bryant contributed a chapter to the fourth edition of , edited by Dennis Raphael. The chapter examines the intersection of housing and health, highlighting how inadequate housing conditions contribute to poor health outcomes, and explores policies that could improve access to safe and affordable housing in Canada.
  • – Dr. Bryant contributed a chapter, titled Implications and the Way Forward, which analyzes the structural and political factors contributing to food insecurity. Published by Policy Press in the United Kingdom, this book advocates for systemic change to ensure equitable access to nutritious food.
