Space available in Interact-Align Certificate in Communication program

Human Resources is offering an online communication certificate program that will empower participants to interact with others successfully and become better communicators.

The Interact-Align Certificate in Communication program includes four workshops to help you to better know yourself, serve others, deal with conflict, and create empowered teams. While each half-day session is different, the common themes include:

  • Understanding/strengthening our emotional quotient (the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict).
  • The importance of clear expectations/obligations.
  • The power of deep listening.
  • How to trust and be trustworthy.
  • How to really connect, communicate, and collaborate at a high level.

The first workshop explores Myers-Briggs personality types and how our preferred way of relating to the world may (or may not) engage with other styles. You’ll learn more about yourself and how you come across, share what you’ve discovered with others, and discuss how to effectively connect with those who are different.

In the second workshop you’ll learn about the notion of service. We all serve through our roles in some way, regardless of our title, level or department. This session will help us reflect on what, whom and how we serve, and what we could do better to enhance the effectiveness and reputation of the university.

The third workshop addresses how to deal with conflict more effectively, at home and at work. Conflict is inevitable, but anger or avoidance is a choice, and is almost always the wrong choice. The session will equip you with strategies and tools to help you resolve conflict, with lots of small-group discussion on how to apply them.

The fourth workshop examines the concept of empowerment. Almost all of us want to be ‘empowered’, though that may mean different things to different people. This session clarifies the research, definitions, conditions, and requirements for empowerment to flourish in the workplace. If you lead others, this program will help you understand how to empower them effectively. Even if you don't lead others, you’ll learn what to ask for, create, and do in order to be empowered.
