Doors Open Oshawa – Saturday, May 4

Doors Open Oshawa is a free annual community event providing an opportunity to explore Oshawa's diverse heritage and cultural sites. Spend a day discovering local history first-hand and celebrating the city’s heritage.

The university is proud to participate in the 2024 Doors Open Oshawa on Saturday, May 4 by opening up three locations for the community to visit. Our Doors Open Oshawa sites include:

Regent Theatre
, built in 1919 for Famous Players theatres, has Georgian architectural lines. One of the town's few remaining examples of this classically inspired style, the building reopened in 2010 as a lecture theatre for Â鶹´«Ã½ University and welcomes community and cultural events in the evenings and on weekends.

  • Regent Theatre will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for self-guided tours. Free classic movie passes (screenings the first Thursday evening of each month) and popcorn will be handed out to Doors Open visitors.

Charles Hall, is a historic Oshawa building that dates back to 1903 as a garment production facility for the T. Eaton Company, and later served as the home of the former Alger Press Building (1947-1993). Charles Hall was renovated and refurbished by Â鶹´«Ã½ in 2010 and is one of the university's key academic hubs. Home to the Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, the building features classrooms, research labs, student support services, common areas for students, faculty and staff, and displays of Indigenous artwork.

  • Charles Hall will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for self-guided touring of the first and second floor of the building.

Windfields Farm, the birthplace of the celebrated horse and 1964 Kentucky Derby champion Northern Dancer, has been transformed into a sustainable agricultural research centre for Â鶹´«Ã½ University. This open-air laboratory celebrates innovative farming methods, conserves biodiversity, and integrates renewable energy. In celebration of the City of Oshawa’s centennial and Â鶹´«Ã½ University’s 20th anniversary, a shuttle bus will take you from Â鶹´«Ã½’s Campus Ice Centre to the site.

  • Windfields Farm will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. via shuttle bus from the Campus Ice Centre, Founders Lot 5 Parking Lot (2200 Simcoe Street North) for an outdoor-walking tour of the property, with opportunities to see the Northern Dancer Cemetery, the exterior of the historic barns, and learn about some of the university’s on-site sustainability initiatives.
