University’s commitment to inclusion and safety

This message is from Ruth Nyaamine, Assistant Vice-President, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging:

Â鶹´«Ã½ University remains committed to nurturing a culture of inclusion, respect, diversity and acceptance, where all university community members feel a sense of belonging in all aspects of their experiences at Â鶹´«Ã½.

We firmly believe that our strength lies in our collective differences, and we stand united against any form of discrimination. It is crucial that we come together as a community to address these challenges.

In light of current and evolving global events, as well as reports on rising instances of Islamophobia and antisemitism, we would like to remind the campus community about available resources, tools and information related to well-being and safety.

We continue to seek opportunities to bolster support for our community. These strategies include:

  • Ongoing Student Life programming - Respecting Individuals, Supporting Equity (RISE): The offers a suite of workshops that increase students’ knowledge about equity, inclusion, consent and respect, while building skills related to bystander interventions, advocacy, allyship and anti-oppression. We seek opportunities to engage the campus community and receive feedback and ideas for future improvements, including suggested RISE workshop topics. If you have any topics to suggest, contact equity@ontariotechu.ca.
  • Support from the Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) office: The DIB team remains available to support the campus community in all respects. Contact them at inclusion@ontariotechu.ca.
  • Campus safety: We continue to enhance our safety and security protocols, including recent additions and enhancements to the Alertus system, our CCTV program, and Code Blue stations. We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with available resources and supports. If you need support from our Campus Safety team, contact 721.3211.
  • Mental health support: There are many free and confidential mental health services and supports to help you if you’re experiencing any difficulties:
    • Faculty and staff:
    • Students: offered through the Office of Student Life

The well-being of our campus community is our priority at all times. We want to assure you that we are actively working to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone. By standing together against discrimination, we contribute to a campus that reflects the values of equality, understanding and mutual respect.

Thank you for being an integral part of our diverse and vibrant community.
