This week’s Cinechats selection: Past Lives
The campus community is invited to enjoy a film screening presented by Cinechats, which is supported in part by Â鶹´«Ã½ University, Durham College, Arts Forum and the Durham Council for the Arts. Age restrictions apply, as most films are rated for those 18 years of age and older.
This week’s selection is (USA, South Korea, 2023).
Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora's family emigrates to Canada and then New York from South Korea. Twenty years later, Nora and Hae Sung are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny.
The film is very quiet, very gently paced, and very subdued. It's a thoughtful, engaging meditation on relationships, on the role chance plays in our lives, on the roads not taken, and on the ways our inner selves evolve with the passage of time and life's experiences
