FSSH Associate Professor earns 2023 Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Author Contribution

Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley, Associate Professor of Criminology and Justice in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, received a 2023 Emerald Literati Award in the Outstanding Author Contribution category for her chapter Black on Blue, Will Not Do – Navigating Canada’s Evidence Based Policing Community as a Black Academic – A Personal Counter-Story. The chapter appeared in a book entitled Sociology of Crime, Law, and Deviance.

Using counter-storytelling, the chapter explores how race and racism may play a role in the collection and dissemination of research that examines racial bias in Canadian policing. .
