2023 summer transition programming for incoming students
In collaboration with partners across campus, the Office of Student Life is running a series of summer transition/pre-Orientation programs for new students starting at Â鶹´«Ã½ in Fall 2023.
Registration for MyStart: Academic Prep launched on July 12. This program enables new students to review prerequisite content at their own pace, in faculty-specific, asynchronous learning modules. It also introduces students to the Canvas platform. Throughout August, students can also attend synchronous (live), online workshops to review academic skills relevant to their program, ask questions, practise problem solving, develop academic skills and meet their peers.
On Monday, July 31 and Tuesday, August 1, incoming students and their supporters are invited to campus to attend MyStart: Connect, where they’ll get to know their fellow classmates and upper-year students, learn about Student Life services, meet Academic Advisors, and prepare for their academic journey. Student Life will also host an Experience Fair, where students and their supporters can learn about various helpful services, and take campus tours to familiarize themselves with their new environment.
In addition, through Student Life’s , each incoming student will be matching with a trained, upper-year Peer Leader. Throughout the summer and into the fall, Peer Leaders will help incoming students navigate university and make the transition to post-secondary life. New this year, Peer Leaders will assist with the university’s MyStart: First Six Weeks programming, which streamlines the first-year experience for incoming students by supporting them throughout the crucial transition period between Orientation and Fall Break. From Monday, August 28 to Friday, October 6, Peer Leaders will invite incoming students to attend workshops, events and programming focused on familiarizing students with various university departments, and encourage them to build their network of peers and connect to the university.
Student Life will continue to update the campus community about Orientation and upcoming September programming. For the most current information about summer transition programming and Orientation,
