Announcing Troy Murray as new Director, Strategic Initiatives, Advancement
Troy Murray will join the Advancement department in the role of Director, Strategic Initiatives, effective Monday, May 8. In this role, he will work closely with the Vice-President Advancement and the university’s senior leadership team on strategy development and fundraising with organizations, foundations, and individuals at the principal gift level. He will also advise the relationship managers on strategy development for the Top 100 donor prospects.
Troy’s background includes more than 10 years as a business development professional, with a unique combination of higher education advancement and technology sector experience. He started his career at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens, which was fitting for him as a former Ontario Hockey League and U Sports hockey player. Serving as the Corporate Sales Co-ordinator for Global Spectrum, he created the organization’s sales strategy within the new Mattamy Athletic Centre and ensured alignment with advancement initiatives on Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) campus.
He then advanced to Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer within TMU’s Student Affairs department, after which he was promoted to Associate Director of Development, where he was responsible for major gift fundraising and was recognized with the Make Your Mark award for his excellence in Community Engagement.
Troy continued to hone his craft as he ventured into the tech sector. As Business Development Lead with Communitech, one of Canada's largest innovation centres, he was responsible for generating private revenue through sales of their corporate innovation programs to help support their commitment to ‘Tech for Good’. In his most recent role as Director of Business Development and Partnerships at SnapPea, a product development agency, he worked with a team of engineers, selling their services to founders and C-level executives alike, bringing ideas and new concepts to life.
Troy holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Business and Marketing Management from TMU, as well as Master of Business Administration from TMU’s Ted Rogers School of Management. When he's not strategizing about raising funds, he's focused on raising his two kids. Troy's an avid golfer, traveler, and life-long learner.
