Retirement announcement: Ken Babcock
Ken Babcock, Director, Athletics and Recreation, Durham College, will retire in June after 36 years of service.
Ken has been an integral part of the campus community and has made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students, coaches, and staff members. Under his leadership, Â鶹´«Ã½ University’s Athletics department and services launched in 2003, and he was instrumental in establishing the university’s first varsity sports teams, including tennis, rowing and hockey.
Â鶹´«Ã½ is grateful for Ken’s unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in building powerhouse varsity programs, creating inclusive recreational sports and constructing world-class facilities. Ken led the application process for Â鶹´«Ã½ to become a member of Ontario University Athletics (OUA). Without OUA membership, the university’s sports teams would not be competing against other varsity teams as they do today. Ken’s philosophy and student-centric approach to varsity and recreation established a solid athletics foundation at Â鶹´«Ã½, allowing the university to continue to build and grow its varsity sports programs over the years.
The university wishes Ken all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
A celebration event for Ken is happening Monday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at 2200 North in the Campus Ice Centre.
If anyone would like to contribute to a gift or share their well wishes, they are invited to contact Angela Werner or Brianna Christopher.
