Student Life seeks staff and faculty volunteers to help with Orange Shirt Day

Student Life is looking for staff and faculty support with button making and hosting tables during the week of September 26 as part of university activities recognizing

While Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation fall on Friday, September 30, various campus stakeholders have come together to develop programming throughout the final week of September to promote: 

  • Education and reflection on Canada's involvement in the former residential school system. 
  • Recognition, remembrance and respect for the survivors of residential schools. 
  • Understanding the generational impacts residential schools have had, and continue to have, on Indigenous communities.

Volunteers will engage in discussions around the university’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, share resources, and invite visitors to make or pick up a button. Participants will be invited to complete a in person or online; pledges will be displayed in Shawenjigewining Hall after September 30. 

Table-hosting shifts are available from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on:

  • Monday, September 26 and Thursday, September 29 - north Oshawa campus location 
  • Wednesday, September 28 - downtown Oshawa campus location 

To sign up for a volunteer shift, enter your name, email address and availability in the by Friday, September 23 at noon. Please also complete the Contact List tab so that Student Life can follow up with additional resources.
