Changes to summer transition programming for incoming undergraduate students

As the university returns to more in-person programming, the Office of Student Life, working with partners across campus, will offer three transition programs for incoming first-year undergraduate students:

Over the last two years, the online course has served as an effective tool for engaging students in faculty-specific asynchronous (self-directed) modules and synchronous (real-time) workshops that support development in foundational academic skills in math, writing, chemistry, study skills and more. Students access MyStart on Canvas, the university’s learning management system. The synchronous workshops are currently underway through Friday, August 26, while the asynchronous courses can be accessed year-round.

  • New for 2022: Student Life will also offer in-person MyStart workshops Monday, August 22 through Friday, August 26.

(previously MyStart Welcome/iBegin)

for incoming students and their families is back for 2022. Students will connect with peers and upper-year students, discover what to expect when classes begin, learn about campus services and resources, meet their first-year academic advisor and participate in an Experience Fair.

  • Faculty-specific sessions will take place:
    • Wednesday, July 20 through Friday, July 22
    • Wednesday, July 27 and Thursday, July 28.

(previously MyStart Orientation/September Orientation)

This year, undergraduate new-student will take place throughout the Labour Day weekend, including:

  • Faculty orientation - Saturday, September 3
  • Â鶹´«Ã½ Carnival - Sunday, September 4
  • A variety of other engaging events – Monday, September 5

Transition programming will continue throughout September with traditional events like:

  • Campus Cup - Tuesday, September 6
  • Get Involved Fair - Thursday, September 8
  • Additional programs from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Student Union (dates to be determined)
  • A new City of Oshawa welcome event - Saturday, September 10

Watch for more information on all of these events throughout the summer in Weekly Report.
