The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) has awarded a Fellowship to Dr. Atef Mohany, Professor and Chair, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Mohany received this recognition at the CSME 2022 International Congress, June 5 to 8 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Dr. Mohany is an outstanding researcher whose work is well known in his research community. His research addresses a wide range of practical engineering problems in the areas of aeroacoustics, flow-induced vibrations and noise, turbulent flows, fluid-structure interaction, structural dynamics, and noise and vibration control. His research activities are sponsored by different industries including automotive, aerospace, and sustainable energy systems as well as federal and provincial agencies. 

Before joining academia, Dr. Mohany held a research-and-development position in the Inspection, Monitoring and Dynamics branch at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL)/Chalk River Laboratories. While at AECL, he was involved in several strategic projects related to the design of key components in the advanced CANDU reactor as well as the operation of nuclear power plants in Canada and around the world.

The list of CSME Fellows within the engineering community at Â鶹´«Ã½ is steadily growing; this reflects the outstanding contributions of Â鶹´«Ã½ University faculty to the CSME and the engineering profession. The designation of Fellow of the CSME is one of the most prestigious in the field of mechanical engineering and recognizes outstanding achievements made by longstanding members of the CSME.
