Hugh Kerr announced as Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Interim General Counsel
Â鶹´«Ã½ University announces the appointment of Hugh Kerr as Interim General Counsel, effective January 10. Hugh will continue in this role until a permanent General Counsel is hired.
Working three days a week, Mr. Kerr will oversee the team responsible for advising and supporting the Â鶹´«Ã½ Board of Governors, Academic Council, all sub-committees of the Board, the President’s office, the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, and the executive leadership team. In addition, he will serve as a general legal resource supporting all of the activities of the university.
Mr. Kerr is a seasoned lawyer and executive with in-depth knowledge of business strategy and implementation. He has 25+ years of experience in an in-house counsel role, having served as Vice-President and Associate Legal Counsel with Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, where he led a team of seven lawyers responsible for Sun Life’s group retirement services, rollover, group benefits and digital health businesses in Canada.
Mr. Kerr is a great listener, has good business judgement, and is a clear and concise communicator. He is empathetic, an experienced leader, and knows how to balance risk and reward. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University.
