Call for expressions of interest: Microcredential Challenge Fund
The Ministry of Colleges and Universities has funding available for the development of microcredentials.
The Ministry has restricted the university to the submission of a single proposal on behalf of Â鶹´«Ã½ University, but this proposal may include the submission of multiple microcredential projects. The deadline for the institutional submission is Friday, June 25 at 11:59 p.m.
To begin the co-ordinated effort toward creating a singular institutional application, please follow the steps below and review the Program Guidelines and Requirements and the Frequently Asked Questions document.
General information
Two types of microcredentials will be funded:
- Single microcredential learning experience (maximum $50,000).
- Stacks or suites of five or more microcredentials (maximum $300,000).
This call provides individuals with the opportunity to build on what they are already doing from an instructional perspective.
For this funding call, these microcredentials are meant to respond to regional labour market needs and strengthen partnerships between postsecondary institutions, training providers and employers. Projects must focus on training in one of the following three areas:
- Aimed to support a local COVID-19 response or other critical areas of need within the community.
- Employer responsive training which leads directly to regional/local jobs.
- Provide upskilling to existing employees in current jobs.
Applications must include an identified partner organization or organizations to contribute to the development of the training and attest to the regional labour market needs. Importantly, partners may include employers from the private or not-for-profit sector.
Partnership requirement
Some of you may already be working with partners in developing microcredentials or as part of other projects, while others may have no current connections. To understand your interest, as well as your existing partnership linkages or requirements, we have created an Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
Submission process
Step 1
- Those interested in completing a microcredential project must complete the EOI form and email it to microcredentials@ontariotechu.ca no later than Monday, May 17.
- The Office of the Provost will review submissions and encourage discussions between those with similar interests to create collaborative submissions where appropriate.
- EOIs requiring assistance in identifying potential regional or local partners will be referred to the Partnership office.
Step 2
- By Tuesday, May 25, principal applicants for those projects deemed eligible/viable for further consideration will be invited to submit a complete project application form.
- To ensure sufficient time for review and sign-off, the form must be completed and returned to microcredentials@ontariotechu.ca by noon on Monday, June 14. A failure to submit the completed project form by this date will invalidate your application.
Step 3
- The Office of the Provost will vet the submitted projects to ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements and submission criteria. Principal applicants will be notified as to whether their project has been included or excluded from the final institutional submission.
