Scheduled testing of the nuclear public alerting system – May 3 through 4

The Regional Municipality of Durham is holding a test of its nuclear public alerting system on Monday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 4. The system warns people in the unlikely event of an emergency at the nuclear generating stations in Clarington or Pickering.

Testing schedule:

  • Landline phones: Monday, May 3

An auto-dialer will call landline phone numbers within 10 kilometres of the nuclear generating stations. The call display will show the call coming from 905.666.6291.

  •  Outdoor sirens: Tuesday, May 4

The outdoor sirens will sound for up to one minute. The sirens are located within three kilometres of the nuclear generating stations and will be heard by people who are outdoors and in that area.
