University Secretary and General Counsel publishes new book and develops certificate program on institutional autonomy and the role of effective governance

Cheryl Foy, University Secretary and General Counsel, recently authored a new book entitled, Introduction to University Governance (to be published by Irwin Law in 2021).

On Tuesday, April 20 from noon to 1 p.m., Foy will present information from her book at a webinar, , hosted by the University of Manitoba’s Centre for Higher Education Research and Development (CHERD).

Topics include:

  • What is institutional autonomy? Why is it important?
  • Is institutional autonomy being eroded?
  • Is the erosion representative of a failure of governance? What can be done about it?

CHERD will announce the development of a certificate program in university governance designed by Foy and based on her book.

Foy will also speak to governance professionals at the on Friday, April 23. She will discuss the role of the governance professional in institutional effectiveness.
