New security feature in Google Meet: End meeting for all
If you’re using , you may have noticed a new way to end a video call.
Google has introduced a new feature to help keep meetings secure. In some cases, when a meeting is over, a host may not want participants to continue without the host present. Hosts can now leave a call and allow others to remain in the meeting, or they can end the meeting for all, removing all participants at once.
Information Technology (IT) Services shares the following information about the two options:
Leave meeting:
- Selecting leave meeting allows the host to leave a meeting but allows the meeting to continue without them.
- The host does not need to be present for future meetings where participants reuse the same meeting link and join using their ontariotechu.net account.
End meeting for all:
- Selecting end meeting for all will end the call for the host and all participants, including participants in breakout rooms.
- Once the meeting has ended, participants will not be able to rejoin automatically unless the host turns the quick access option back to the on position for that particular meet code or manually re-admits each participant.
- Only the host can turn on the quick access feature. You can find it by selecting the blue security lock at the bottom left corner of the Google Meet beside meeting details. If you don’t see a blue security lock, you are not the meeting host.
