FEAS researcher participates in national discussion on Canada’s hydrogen strategy

The federal government recently released a national strategy on hydrogen fuels that positions the technology as a key contributor to reaching Canada’s 2050 net-zero emissions target. Already, Canada is among the top 10 hydrogen producers in the world, but to date has fallen short of fully exploiting the technology’s economic and environmental potential. What challenges need to be overcome to implement the government’s ambitious hydrogen targets and capitalize on the opportunities of hydrogen for the country?

On January 19, Dr. Kamiel Gabriel, Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS), joined other experts and thought leaders in a panel discussion on the Canada’s national hydrogen strategy and the political, policy, regulatory, technical, economic, and environmental opportunities and challenges of hydrogen for Canada, at home and abroad. The University of Ottawa’s Institute for Science, Society and Policy hosted the panel.
