Virtual memorial ceremony: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women – December 4
On Friday, December 4, join the (FEAS), the , and the in the (FSSH) for a virtual memorial ceremony to remember the 14 women who were murdered in an act of gender-based violence at École Polytechnique de Montréal on December 6, 1989.
The short ceremony will recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women with a candle lighting, the reading of the victims’ names, a moment of silence, and words from several speakers:

- Dr. Lori Livingston, Provost and Vice-President, Academic
- Dr. Hossam Kishawy, Dean, FEAS
- Reeda Awan and Lena Mohamand, Co-Presidents, WIE Sub-Society
- Shannon M. Pole, Owner, (engineering career coach for women)
- Dr. Shahid Alvi, Professor, FSSH
The ceremony will remember and honour the women who lost their lives that day, and provide an opportunity for the campus community to share stories and reflect on the violence that remains a daily reality for girls and women around the world.
