Holiday Hope Cards initiative for long-term care residents

Criminology master’s degree candidate Remington Latanville recently launched Holiday Hope Cards, an initiative to reach residents of city-run long-term care homes (some of the hardest-hit by COVID-19) during the holiday season. Many of these seniors have no family members, or have only limited access to family caregivers.

Send in your handwritten personalized holiday cards, as well as crafts, ornaments or gifts to spread some holiday cheer and let recipients know they are not forgotten.

What to include in your card:

  • A little bit about yourself.
  • Share why you love the holidays, or a favourite memory/tradition, etc.
  • Personalized thoughts/well wishes/messages of holiday cheer.
  • Drawings (optional).

Gift suggestions:

  • CD players
  • CDs
  • decorations
  • DVDs
  • large building blocks
  • large-piece puzzles
  • magazines (sports, fishing, car, leisure, home)
  • socks

(Note: Additional items beyond this list are appreciated, with the exception of food).
