Cybersecurity tip – Week 3: Backing up your devices and files

As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month (October), the Information Technology (IT) Services department will offer weekly tips on how to be more secure online.

This week’s tip: Make sure to back up your devices and files

Backing up the data on your computer is good practice. One reason is to protect your data in the event of a drive failure. If your device’s storage is damaged or fails and you haven’t backed it up, all of your files will be lost forever.

Perhaps you store important records (e.g. work-related files, homework/assignments, tax returns, personal memories and photos from vacations or gatherings) on your work and personal computers. Use backup software such as Google Drive Backup and Sync to automatically upload copies of your data to Google Drive, protecting your important data from loss. Learn more by visiting the .

Don’t forget to participate in the  by completing activities for a chance to win some great prizes, including one of four $25 Uber Eats gift cards. The contest closes Wednesday, October 30 at 4 p.m.; winners will be contacted by Monday, November 2 at 4 p.m.
