Student Life launches online MyStart transition program for first-year students
On July 13, the Office of Student Life successfully launched online services for, the university’s first-year transition program. MyStart includes a series of asynchronous modules and live workshops that provide new students with a head start in their university career. This program was developed in partnership with academic, administrative, and service partners across campus to adapt to remote learning. The program replaces MyStart: Welcome and MyStart: Academic, the two summer transition programs previously delivered in-person.
MyStart will be available all summer on Canvas, the university’s new learning management system. The program includes eight modules with an overview of campus supports and services and an introduction to the Peer Leader program.
Faculty-specific live workshops are also hosted on Canvas and will be scheduled throughout the summer. The faculty-specific content includes:
- Learning skills and study strategies.
- Library resources and research skills.
- Professionalism for experiential learning.
- Writing, math and chemistry review.
The program is set up for students to learn at their own pace, review the modules and engage in live workshops throughout the summer. The self-directed online content is interactive, with more than 125 instructional videos, discussion opportunities and practice quizzes. More than 90 live online workshops will be available, providing students with opportunities to ask questions, practise concepts and engage with their peers.
