Importance of password resets and Windows updates

With the current work-from-home situation, it is still critical to manage your network password as well as maintain Microsoft Windows security updates on a regular basis.

Password management

It is important to reset your password every 120 days to secure your Â鶹´«Ã½ account and data from cyber security intruders. When you are connected to either CAMPUS-AIR or GlobalProtect (VPN) using the university laptop, you may use the Windows password manager. If you do not have GlobalConnect (VPN) installed, please complete the VPN Request form. If you are not connected through our networks, you may also reset your password through the webmail method. Windows updates

Microsoft patches must be updated each month to maintain security and ensure optimal performance of the university laptop. Once connected to the university using GlobalProtect (VPN), your university-issued Windows laptop will automatically attempt to install any missing Windows updates. You may be prompted to restart your computer once the Windows updates have completed.

IT Services recommends you:

  • Restart your laptop at the end of your day to ensure that Windows updates have completed successfully.
  • Connect to GlobalProtect (VPN) for at least one full working day each month to install the necessary monthly Microsoft updates/security patches.
