University makes second donation of produce to Feed the Need Durham
On July 28, the university’s Office of Campus Infrastructure and Sustainability made its (green onions and kale) to Feed the Need Durham. The first donation was made on July 15. The donations will help families in need, especially those economically affected by COVID-19.
This summer’s kale crop from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Pollinator Project Gardens is thriving in the greenhouse and ready for harvesting. Tomatoes, peppers, corn, cucumbers and squash are just a few of the vegetables to come from the gardens this year. In the fall, apples in the orchard will be ready.
The university also donated 120 jars of Â鶹´«Ã½ Wildflower honey to Feed the Need Durham in March.
This is the third year the university has donated fresh vegetables and fruit grown on campus. In 2018 and 2019 the university contributed produce to St. Vincent’s Kitchen (Durham Outlook). In 2019 a portion of campus-grown produce was also used as ingredients in dishes served on campus.
