Sharifa Wright named university’s new Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
The Office of the Provost welcomes of Sharifa Wright as Â鶹´«Ã½’s new Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, effective Wednesday, July 1.
Sharifa is a diversity leader with more than 15 years’ experience engaging and supporting underrepresented, disenfranchised and marginalized communities in the higher education, government and non-profit sectors in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.
In this newly created role, she will provide strategic leadership that will effect change in equity, diversity and inclusion across the university. This role is critical to Â鶹´«Ã½’s goal of creating a culture driven by these core values. This position will ensure principles of equity are central to the development and implementation of the University’s strategy, action plan, policies and operations.
Sharifa comes from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, the No. 1 liberal arts college in the United States. As Williams College’s Director for Alumni Diversity & Inclusion, she led numerous initiatives in the Office of College Relations and across campus to advance the institution's strategic equity, diversity and inclusion strategic outcomes.
Sharifa holds certifications in Project Management and Alternative Dispute Resolution; she is a graduate of Williams College, and has completed graduate coursework at York University.
