Graduate students compete in Three Minute Thesis on March 11 and 12

The graduate student research process at any university can at times be isolating. Often students work within a very small research group or among colleagues with a similar knowledge base. But on Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12, Â鶹´«Ã½ University will put the spotlight on graduate student research as candidates for master’s degrees and PhDs publicly share their discoveries during the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition.

3MT® is a university-wide competition for graduate students to summarize the key points of their research and its potential impacts to a general audience in just 180 seconds. .

Watch our graduate students race the clock to win the top prize of $1,000 and their ticket to the provincial competition at the University of Windsor. Audience members attending the finals can cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.

When:

  • 3MT® Heats: Wednesday, March 11 (see the for the schedule)
  • 3MT® Finals: Thursday, March 12 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Where:

  • All 3MT® events will take place in the Business and Information Technology Building, Mezzanine (second floor).
  • New this year: finals viewing parties: 
    Watch the livestream in a relaxed environment, from the satellite viewing space in:
    • North Oshawa location: North Oshawa Campus Library, Fireside Reading Room
    • Downtown Oshawa location: 61 Charles Street Building, second-floor atrium
