Smoke-free campus policy consultation

On October 15, 2018, the university announced an interim smoke-free campus policy affecting all students, staff, faculty, visitors and contractors. This interim policy prohibits smoking and/or vaping of any type anywhere on university property, including student residences and university-owned vehicles. The interim policy and additional information can be found on the university’s .

Over the next several weeks, the university will begin consultation with members of our campus community to help inform the development of a formal, permanent policy by early 2019. These consultations will occur with campus community members involved in Joint Health and Safety Committees, Academic Council, Administrative Leadership Team and Policy Advisory Committee. As well, the campus community can provide opinions, thoughts and feedback between Monday, November 19 and Friday, December 7 through an on our website.

The information obtained through each of our consultation sessions and feedback channels will be reviewed by our university’s Task Force on a Smoke Free Campus, co-chaired by Olivia Petrie, Assistant Vice-President, Student Life and Jamie Bruno, Assistant Vice-President, Human Resources. This task force comprises students, staff, faculty and community members who will consider the feedback collected as part of the development of our permanent policy.
