Sign up for the enhanced CIRENS system by Friday, November 30
The Campus Incident Response Emergency Notification System (CIRENS) is the university’s campus mass-notification system, providing valuable emergency information to students, faculty, staff and visitors. The university recently switched to a new service provider for CIRENS; as a result, the Office of Campus Safety (OCS) asks all faculty and staff to register in the new CIRENS system by Friday, November 30.
How CIRENS works:In the event of an emergency affecting the broader campus community, OCS sends CIRENS alerts across multiple channels.
Faculty and staff receive emergency information via email as a mandatory component of the CIRENS system. Other public information channels include the Lockdown External Audible Alarm, the campus public address system, campus status updates posted on the university website (uoit.ca), and the posting of emergency information on campus digital signage screen and on social media channels.
Faculty and staff can also opt in to receive the same CIRENS-initiated emergency messages on their phones and via text message. However, they must register online with a uoit.ca or dc-uoit.ca email address to receive these enhanced services.
Already registered for CIRENS phone calls and text messages under the former CIRENS service provider? To continue receiving them:- Visit the new and enter your network email to request a password reset. Note: Please do not use the ‘Don’t have an account? Sign up’ feature at the top right of the page.
- You will receive an email with instructions on how to change your CIRENS password and log in.*
- Register for enhanced CIRENS notifications by Friday, November 30.
* If you receive an error message stating, ‘That address has not been registered,’ contact cirens@dc-uoit.ca for further assistance.
