Invitation to conversation related to ONTechU – November 15
Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a lot of discussion around changing the handle of the university from UOIT to ONTechU. President Steven Murphy looks forward to continuing these conversations.
The university is not changing its name. For many of us, the university’s current handle, UOIT, is clunky to pronounce, awkward to explain, difficult to recall and frequently confused with other institutions. The university has conducted multiple consultations with students, faculty, staff, community leaders, donors and corporate partners. We are on a journey to explore how we can improve the way people refer to our university, to better reflect who we are as post-secondary technology leaders, and to assist with strengthening our brand within and beyond our region.
On October 22, the university held open forums at both of its campus locations to further gauge the sentiments of its students. Recordings of each session are available on the university website at , so please take the time to watch them.
President Murphy would also like to hear what faculty and staff think about ONTechU as the university’s new handle. The first faculty/staff conversation took place at the north Oshawa location on November 13. If you were unable to attend, please join him and your fellow colleagues for the next session at the downtown Oshawa location on Thursday, November 15 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the 61 Charles Street Building, Room 217.
If you are unable to attend in person, feel free to the consultation live online. You can also your comments and questions during the live session or at any other time.
The conversations will not stop here; there will be many other formal and informal opportunities over the next few months to connect and share our thoughts and ideas.
