Former Supreme Court justice Frank Iacobucci to speak at the university on October 23

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) will welcome The Honourable Frank Iacobucci, C.C., Q.C., L.S.M., to campus as part of its Legal Studies Distinguished Visitor Lecture Series.

One of the university’s 2018 honorary doctorate recipients, Iacobucci is a former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada (SCOC). In addition to authoring and co-authoring judgments of the SCOC and the Federal Court of Canada, he has written extensively on a wide variety of legal and policy subjects. He led discussions toward a fair and lasting resolution of the legacy of Indian residential schools with legal counsel for former students, the Assembly of First Nations, legal counsel for the involved church entities and other interested parties. He also conducted an independent review of First Nations representation on juries in Ontario, and (chromite mining and smelting development project in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario) from 2013 to 2018.

Iacobucci will deliver a lecture entitled Toward a New Relationship with Indigenous People. Admission is free.
