Land acknowledgement on email signature lines
As part of the Government of Canada’s initiatives to advance reconciliation and renew the relationship with Indigenous peoples, the university encourages faculty and staff to consider using the following land acknowledgement in their email signature line:
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is proud to acknowledge the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, which is covered under the Williams Treaties. We are situated on the Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, which includes Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi.
If you currently include the land acknowledgement in your email signature, please ensure it mentions the Williams Treaties and the Algonquin peoples.
