Nominations open for the university's Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision

The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) has launched the university's new Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision.

The award recognizes faculty members for excellence in supervising and mentoring graduate students in a way that inspires them to become successful scholars and professionals.

Characteristics include:

• availability
• engagement
• enthusiasm for the pursuit of knowledge
• quality and timeliness of guidance and feedback
• responsiveness to student needs

The supervisor must also promote timely completion of the thesis and encourage the student’s career development by providing leadership and support in academic matters such as publishing, presenting and applying for funding.

SGPS will present one award each year. The award includes a recognition plaque and $1,000 toward the recipient’s internal research account. SGPS will announce the award recipient during the annual faculty and staff awards ceremony in the fall. The recipient will also be recognized at the Convocation ceremonies the following June.

Faculty, staff and students can submit their nominations for the 2018 award until Thursday, May 31.
