Changes to Graduate Research Assistantship payment process

The university is making changes to the payment of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) in order to improve transparency and provide earlier access to funds.

Students will receive one payment in each of the Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer semesters. Under this new process, tuition will be netted against the GRA award; this is an important step in ensuring compliance with the net tuition mandate.

There are a number of benefits to graduate students:

  • Improved student experience, such as fewer graduate students on hold or receiving late fees due to non-payment of fees.
  • Less paperwork for students to complete.
  • Consolidated tax receipt.
  • Easier to determine tuition balance owing after scholarships and awards.
  • Access to any tuition account credit balance (due to scholarship funds) earlier in the academic term.
