‘Think before you click’: IT Services launches cyber security awareness campaign

Canadian universities have experienced an increase in the number of email ‘phishing’ attacks over the past year.

Phishing is a deliberate and often sophisticated attempt to steal someone’s personal information, such as credit card numbers, business/banking account numbers, passwords and other sensitive data for the purposes of identity theft.

At first glance, phishing emails often look like legitimate messages. They trick people into clicking on fraudulent links, opening malicious attachments, or logging onto realistic-looking websites asking you to enter personal information.

Security is everyone’s job. Visit the Information Technology (IT) Services website to learn how to recognize the signs of a phishing email, and help us reduce the university’s vulnerability to phishing attacks.

Note: As part of the awareness campaign, IT Services will send simulated phishing emails to faculty and staff, which will help the university assess its vulnerability to attacks.

Remember: always think before you click links and open attachments in any email!
