Student Voices on Sexual Violence survey

Between February and March, the university will ask students to participate in the Student Voices on Sexual Violence survey, which will be conducted at post-secondary institutions across Ontario. The goal of the survey is to gather information to help understand issues related to unwanted sexual experiences. Responses will be used to make improvements to sexual violence policy, procedures and services on campus.

The survey is voluntary and will ask specific questions about students’ perspectives and experiences relating to:

  • unwanted sexual attention
  • consent for sexual activity
  • reactions to sexual harassment or sexual assault against themselves or others
  • support services addressing sexual violence at the university

Some of the survey questions may upset or cause discomfort to some of our students.  As a reminder, here are the supports and services available for students:

  • Student LifeLine: call 905.721.3392 or studentlifeline@uoit.ca to make an appointment.
  • Good2Talk (24/7 helpline): call 1.886.925.5454.

If you would like to know what to do if you ever receive a disclosure from a student who has experienced sexual violence, you may wish review the , and/or participate in one of the upcoming Disclosure Training workshops (no registration required). These workshops help faculty and staff develop supportive responses and become more knowledgeable of support services for students affected by sexual violence:

  • Tuesday February 20 from 3 to 4 p.m.: Science Building, Room 2130
  • Wednesday February 21 from 9 to 10 a.m.: Science Building, Room 2140
  • Thursday February 22 from noon to 1 p.m.: Science Building, Room 2130
