STEAM 3D Maker Lab hosts Innovation in Learning session
On February 13, the (FEd) showcased its research to 10 education stakeholders, including superintendents, system-level leaders and principals. This event was part of the Ministry of Education’s multi-site Innovation in Learning conference, which runs until Wednesday, February 28.
The Innovation in Learning conference brings together key personnel to learn more about the innovation in education happening across our region—specifically in relation to design-thinking, iterative prototyping and user-centric design. Participants collaborate and return to their school boards with innovative, research-tested approaches to teaching and learning aimed at increasing student engagement and developing their global competencies.
The STEAM3D Lab highlighted its current research partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Council of Ontario Directors of Education, and its research at the university, where it is investigating the impact of makerspaces on teaching and learning. It also facilitated hands-on making sessions with the participants, who used the design-thinking process and iterative prototyping to develop a solution to a personal or real-world-related problem. Participants learned about the various digital and analogue maker tools in the lab’s makerspace, and tried some of them out as they worked on their projects.
