University appoints student success advocate Joe Stokes as Registrar

One of the longest-serving recruitment and admissions leaders at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology will take over the role of university Registrar on Tuesday, January 2.

Joe Stokes will lead the Office of the Registrar and will report to the Office of the Assistant Vice-President, Planning.

Stokes joined the university as a recruitment officer during its first academic year (2003-2004). Over the years he has progressively assumed greater responsibility within the Registrar’s office. Most recently, he was Associate Registrar, Enrolment Services, a portfolio that includes the leadership of domestic and international admissions, recruitment and enrolment management, as well as university-wide student communication.

He is the past Chair of the Ontario Universities’ Council on Admission, and is the Vice-President of the Ontario University Registrars’ Association. In addition to leading long-term strategic recruitment projects at the university, he has also led work across the post-secondary sector on retention and student success.

He holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Western University in London, Ontario. He completed his bachelor’s degree at York University in Toronto, Ontario.

Stokes is a strong advocate for student success and he understands the vital role the Registrar’s office plays in the 21st-century university environment. He is highly respected within the University of Ontario Institute of Technology community. He will continue to manage the admissions and recruitment functions. He will also oversee the creation of a new reporting structure within the office.

The university thanks Brad MacIsaac, Assistant Vice-President, Planning, who served as Registrar since Summer 2013.
