FSSH welcomes Mariell Parris, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholar

Mariell Parris, recipient of the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship (QES), joins the university as a Visiting Scholar for the winter semester under the supervision of Wesley Crichlow, PhD, Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH).

During her visit, Parris aims to share and compare experiences in the field of criminology, and form relationships that support learning and discovery, in order to encourage academic and research collaboration in the future.

Prior to arriving at our university, she worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Institute for Criminology and Public Safety where she is also pursuing a master’s degree.

Her research interests include:

  • citizen security
  • community outreach for crime prevention
  • fear of crime

The QES enables young global leaders across the Commonwealth to access cross-cultural exchanges. It aims to facilitate international education, discovery and inquiry, and professional experiences in commemoration of 2012’s 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.
